While the Janome 2212 lacks many of the fancy features found on higher end models, this sewing machine makes up for the lack of bells and whistles with its impressively low cost and quality workmanship.  This model contains all of the basic features a sewer or quilter wants and is a real work horse model.

What I like about the Janome 2212 sewing machine is that while it's billed as an entry level sewing machine, it is good for sewers and quilters of all levels. While experienced users will likely want more options, if you are just beginning to sew quilts or clothing or are an 'every once in a while sewer' then this is a solid choice and comes at a great price.

One of the features I like most about this model is that with each project you will be able to customize the length and width of each stitch you make. Entirely mechanical, this sewing machine is equipped with dial pattern selection. By using this dial, users can select from any of the 12 built-in stitches. Also, when sewing clothes, you will also be able to use the four-step button hole feature.

Pros:
  • Inexpensive
  • Reliable
Cons:
  • Lacks Features
  • Stretch stitching non-customizable

Extremely lightweight, this model is one of the better ones to carry along when you are on the go. For beginners, this feature is a must-have as many beginning seamstresses need a portable model that can be brought to a class on sewing. The 2212 gives you that ease and convenience.

The 2212 comes equipped with a free arm. When working on larger projects such as quilts, the free arm and drop feed will make your life easier. Extremely versatile, this sewing machine is exceptionally reliable and produces consistent stitches every time.

For most beginner and intermediate sewers, this model will reliably do everything they could possibly need or want. Simple and efficient, this sewing machine is equipped with a vertical bobbin. The main thing customers recommend about the Janome 2212 is its low price.

In multiple reviews, customers reported being extremely happy with the quality of stitches they received for the amount of money spent on the machine. Many customers also enjoy using this machine to give lessons to their children. Since the cost is low, parents never have to worry about their child breaking the sewing machine.

The machine is a basic machine and so anyone expecting it to have a lot of options like more expensive models may be disappointed. One user reported that stretch stitches cannot be adjusted beyond their factory programmed levels.

This is a great basic sewing machine. It is great for beginners, children and intermediate level sewers or for advanced sewers that want a basic, portable machine. This model is custom made for someone on a budget. For the price, the Janome 2212 sewing machine is a fantastic option for anyone looking for a basic, lightweight sewing machine for sewing and quilting.
